FAQ

Will this zine be SFW or NSFW?
This zine will be SFW! Mild gore/violence will be allowed due to the canon-typical violence of the manga series.

What is this zine about?
This zine will be about Himiko Toga from Boku no Hero Academia! There is no overarching theme and will include canon-compliant and alternate universe content. Manga spoilers are allowed in your works. Please be aware of this when choosing to participate.

Is this zine for-profit? Digital? Physical? How will contributors be compensated?
This zine will be digital and physical! As per the interest check results, we will be for-profit. Depending on final sales, we want to give everyone a zine plus merch. Minors aged 16 and 17 will not receive monetary compensation, but will be able to donate their portion to the profit pool, a charity of their choice, etc. We will work with you on this, should you be accepted.

Do I need to have a Discord account?
Yes, a Discord account is required if you are accepted into the zine. We will share announcements, updates, and general communications in the zine server.

Are minors allowed in the zine?
Yes, though we have an age restriction. Anyone 16 years or older may apply to the zine.

Will you be looking for anything specific from contributor apps?
For each application, we require three (3) samples and a portfolio of your best work. Below are the role specific requirements for each app. Please be sure to grant viewing access to your samples and portfolio.

All samples must be SFW. Mild gore, violence, and dark themes are fine, but potentially triggering material must include a content warning. Failure to abide by this will disqualify your application.

Plagiarism of any kind will not be tolerated and will disqualify your application.

Page Artists:
Please submit works that best show your grasp of anatomy, composition, and color.

• At least one piece with a full background is required.
--> A full background includes some complex elements or designs, like outdoor scenery or the interior of a room. The background does not need to be a complex scene that encompasses a full page, but it should be enough to represent the environment that the subject is in.
--> For example: a part of a building a character is leaning on, simple grassy fields, etc. All of these are sufficient as long as they properly show your ability to draw environments. Solid color fill-ins and simple pattern backgrounds do not count.
• My Hero Academia samples are highly encouraged but not required!
• Traditional art is allowed as long the piece you submit is clean and scanned to a high resolution.

Your portfolio may be a Google Drive, Carrd, Twitter Moment, Tumblr tag, personal website, DA, Art Station, or any other location where we can review your work.

Merch Artists:
Please submit works that best show your ability to design merch.

• At least two merch samples are required.
• Design files and product photos are acceptable as samples.
• We strongly suggest that you choose samples that showcase the type of merch you’d like to design. For example, if you would like to design a charm, charm-related samples will give us the best idea of how your style will look in that format.

Your portfolio may be a Google Drive, shop link, personal website, or any other location where we can review your work.

Writers:
Please submit three works that showcase your grasp on grammar, flow, characterization, and your ability to tell a story within a specified word count.

• Samples should be 1,000 to 2,500 words.
• Word count overage up to 500 words is allowed.
• Works longer than 3,000 words will not be reviewed past their 3,000 word mark.
• Excerpts are allowed but one completed work is required.
• A My Hero Academia sample is required.
• Works including Toga are highly recommended but not required. Be warned, applications that do not include Toga may suffer when compared to applications that include her.

Your portfolio may be a Google Drive, Carrd, AO3, Wattpad, personal website, or any other location where we can review your work.

Can I apply for more than one position?
Yes. However, you can only be accepted for one position.

Will we be able to ask for feedback on applications?
We will be unable to offer feedback on applications once they close as we will be dedicating our efforts toward kicking off the creation period of the zine and welcoming in contributors.

Are ships allowed in this zine?
No explicit romantic relationships will be allowed. References to Toga’s canonical feelings about characters are fine but should not be the focus of your work. If you have specific questions or concerns about your pitch, a moderator will be happy to discuss them with you.

Is content about Toga from other characters’ perspectives allowed, such as the other LOV members or the U.A. students?
We ask that the majority of the content be from Toga’s perspective and focus on her! Other characters may make cameos but should not be the primary focus of your piece.

Are AUs allowed?
AUs are allowed, though we will be aiming to have an equal combination of canon-compliant and AU content.

Are headcanons allowed?
Headcanons that are compatible with Toga's canon characterization are allowed. If you have specific questions or concerns about a headcanon, a moderator will be happy to discuss them with you.

How do check-ins work?
Check-ins are periods throughout the creation period where your pieces will be turned in to the Mods to showcase progress. Details of what is expected for each check-in will be detailed in the designated channels in our Discord server. The dates for each check-in are provided on our schedule!

Will extensions be allowed?
Definitely! We will announce reminders one week in advance prior to every due date. Should you require an extension, simply ask for one in the designated channels or message a Mod directly.

What happens if I miss a deadline?
We ask that you keep track of deadlines and let us know as soon as you can if you think you may miss one. We will be very firm on the final submission dates as this will make zine assembly much easier for release. If you feel that you will not be able to meet a deadline, please ask for an extension sooner than later!

Failure to respond to announcements and reminders regarding deadlines, inform a mod of your absence, or show us progress of your work by the second check-in will result in removal from the project. Remember, this only applies if you fail to communicate your absence(s). If you inform us of any delays in advance and manage to show us progress of your work, you will not be removed from the project. We understand that life and health come first.
